The majority of us have spent a couple of weeks or more in self-isolation, and it can feel like we’re going a little stir-crazy – but it isn’t all doom and gloom! There are some great positives that come out of having some extra time to ourselves.

friends chandler joey free time

  1. More free time

For those who are currently not working, having your days free means you can focus on hobbies you really love doing, make your way through your to-do lists, or volunteer for the NHS or a charity. And if you’re now working from home, just think of the extra time in your day you’re gaining from not having to commute! Use this time to do something you really love.

saving money

  1. Saving money

Because we’re not going out, there’s less money to be spent. If you drive, you’ll be spending a LOT less on petrol. If you use public transport, you’ll be saving so much £££ by not commuting. And, as painful as it is, not going out to the pub every weekend means money saved there, too!

zoom call happy face

  1. Re-connecting with friends and family

The lack of physical contact with friends and family has resulted in more FaceTime and Skype calls – even getting back in touch with people you haven’t spoken to in a while. We’re becoming more appreciative of conversations with our loved ones, and ironically this lockdown is bringing us closer together.

  1. Getting creative

Lots of people are starting up new hobbies or re-igniting old ones. Whether it’s painting, drawing, embroidery or up-cycling, now is the perfect time to be getting crafty. Watch some YouTube tutorials and let those creative juices flow!

stitch cooking baking

  1. Cooking delicious food

With restaurants and most take-aways closed, we’re having to cook a lot more. Normally, when you get home from a long day at work, all you want to do is throw something in the oven that requires minimal effort but, with all this extra time on our hands there’s no better time to learn some new recipes or cook your favourite comforting meals.

skin care routine

  1. Perfecting our skin-care routines

We don’t know about you, but not leaving the house means wearing minimal or no make-up and our skin is thanking us for it! The extra time in the mornings and evenings means we’ve got time to do a full routine – including cleansing, purifying and toning with all our lotions and potions.

taken for granted

  1. Appreciation of the little things

In our busy lives it can be so easy to take the smallest things for granted – like being able to pop to the shops, grab lunch with a friend, visit your family, or sunbathe in the park. Since lockdown began we’ve all had to stop doing these things that were such a normal part of our lives we didn’t realise how much we appreciated them.

cat resting

  1. Rest & recharge

By having our busy schedules stripped down to the bare minimum, we’re finally able to give our bodies some quality resting time. Having the extra down-time means we can really recharge our bodies – whether that means being able to get a good 8 hours of sleep a night instead of 5, or being able to take a nice soak in the bath instead of a quick 5 minute shower. Now is the perfect time to listen to your body and give it what it needs.

wardrobe clear out

  1. Having a clear out

Being stuck at home means we’re more aware of clutter and ‘stuff’ – so take this opportunity to have a good old clear out of your home. Go through your wardrobe and get rid of things that don’t fit or you never wear. Give your kitchen cupboards a thorough sort out – you don’t need that tin of soup that expired three months ago. Sort through your drawers and throw out the random cables that don’t seem to belong to anything. Donate what you can and throw away the rest – you’ll feel so much better for it!

  1. Working on bigger projects

Is there something you’ve been wanting to do for AGES but kept putting it off because you didn’t have the time to do it? Well, lockdown is the perfect time to get yourself into gear!

Whether it’s starting a blog, re-decorating your house or learning a new language – the time is now. We promise you’ll feel amazing when you can tick it off your to-do list! What are some positive things self-isolation has given you?

Stay safe,
